Welcome Katty Cuenca, our new Project Designer

Updated: Jul 31

Framework Architects is excited to welcome our new Project Designer, Katty Cuenca, to the team. She went to the Universidad de Guayaquil in Ecuador where she received a bachelor's degree in architecture.

Let’s get to know her a little better now that he is part of the Framework family.

What led you to a career in architecture? What do you like about it?

In the beginning, I wanted to be a dentist. In Ecuador, we have six years of high school and we’re then asked to choose a path for our future career. I selected chemistry and biology. But as I neared graduation, I started painting which made me think I could choose interior design as my career. I felt like it was a good choice for me. My dad was an architect and a professor, in fact, he was a teacher’s assistant while my mom was in college, so I also felt a familiarity with architecture. I eventually had to choose between the two, and it was not until I assisted with an architectural conference where I listened to a professor describing how amazing this profession was that I started thinking, “I belong here.” And I’ve never looked back!

Why did you join Framework?

I was working with an attorney in the same building as Framework Architects’ office. Jorge, my husband, came to work with Framework a few months ago. Marvin approached me a short time ago saying he had another position available. I really wanted to get back into architecture and didn’t realize how much I loved it until I stopped doing it. I quit my job and became a full-time Framework team member!

What would you say your design philosophy is? What are you passion about?

I enjoy modern architecture, and architecture from the 1950s, which is mid-century modern. I deeply admire Frank Lloyd Wright’s career.

It is always my aspiration to design spaces responsive to clients and are a joy to experience. To integrate and connect the interior of the building to the landscape and combine natural materials and textural variation is something I think represents a solid design practice and can enhance our lives.

What do you like to do when not at work?

I love spending time with my family and traveling. I especially love sampling the food from other places and exploring their customs. What is my favorite? Ecuadorian of course! My country’s food will always remain first. I also enjoy dancing, watching documentaries, learning about history, and listening to music.

What’s something someone would be surprised to learn about you?

I love soccer and before my daughter was born, my brother and I used to go to the stadium very often to cheer our team. I am a big fan of ‘90s music (Spanish and English). In keeping with the architecture theme in the family, we named our furry babies after famous architects Zaha Hadid (our dog) and Norman Foster (our cat).

Meet Katty's beautiful family!
